New Meganova Office

New Meganova Office

We just moved into our new offices across the hall. Now all we need is a floorplan.

Update: Patrick came up with a pretty good plan. The Wakoopa and Twones guys are together in one corner with 5 tables and Patrick, me and Arjen are on the other side of the room with 3 tables and a cosy meeting corner.

We even have a kitchen..

B&O Phone

B&O Phone

This morning I bumped into an old friend at the Village Bagels. He is one of the hippest product designers I know and he is currently working on his ‘dream assignment’. A top secret project to design a new phone.

And that is all he can tell me really.

But ever since he started working on this project he has been showing me new phones. Every time we meet he is testing and reconstructing another one. So today he brought a brand new B&O phone for me to play with.

I showed him my Blackberry Curve and he looked at it with medical precision. He can tell you something about every detail, the type of plastic used and how the tactile experience is compared to any other phone.

The B&O is one of the weirdest phones I have ever played with. Everything is NOT in the place you expect it to be. You pick it up and then you are holding it upside down. You want to take a photo and instead of seeing what is in front of you you see the palm of your hand, to the left.

I’ll stick to my Blackberry Curve.

My New MacBook

My New MacBook

The harddisk in my MacBook Pro stopped working last week. It didn’t just stop but got slower every day up to a point where just starting up would take 2 hours. Tessa brought it to the Apple store and even they were impressed! They didn’t see anything like it before. Makes me feel so special….

Yesterday I persuaded Arjen to buy a new MacBook and loan it to me until my MacBook Pro comes back from Apple. He bought the white 60GB version and upgraded it to 2gb internal memory. My MacBook Pro harddisk is 140GB and all my files were more than 70GB so I’m running everyhting from an external harddisk. Not the fastest solution but it works.

So this is my MacBook for the following 2 weeks.

PS: Mobile Blogging via Flickr doesn’t seem to work anymore. I don’t remember changing anything at my blog or at Flickr but it just stopped working last week. Any suggestions?

Barend from Big Bang Ventures

May 22nd, 2007

Barend from Big Bang VenturesWe are having dinner with Barend from Big Bang Ventures. He is the judge for the Start-up arena and has the awful job of deciding who gets a table at The Next Web Conference.

We are going over ALL the start-ups right now with a little help from a fine bottle of Brouilly Pisse-Vieille, oysters and rib-eye.

As Patrick and I were exchanging oysters (different recipes) Barend offered us some, on the spot, good advice; he noticed us sharing some food and liked that. He said;

“business partners sharing everything, even food, is exactly what an investor is looking for. A team that is so close can handle anything”

He actually accused us of planning the whole thing to make a good impression on him.

PS: Flickr blog posting seems to be out of order so that is why it took so long before this post arrived here. I posted it first during dinner.

Daniel Ashes and Stolen Works of Art

May 19th, 2007

Daniel Ashes Exhibition

We are at the FotoFestival Naarden with Daniel Ashes who has his work on display here. At least, that was the plan.

A few years ago I was here too with Daniel, Gijs M., Lucas L., Hugo B. and Vivianne Sassen. But we arrived in the middle of the night. She was unhappy with her work and wanted it removed. The organization didn’t want to remove it so we volunteered to remove it for her, in the middle of the night.

We didn’t think much of it but the media did. It made the front page of almost every newspaper in the Netherlands.

So today we returned to see Daniels work. As we arrived at the spot where his work was supposed to be a guy came up to us (with the grey hair) and asked us if there weren’t originally four photos. Daniel said that there were. The guy then told us he had just alerted the organization that one of the photos must have been stolen. You can see here that only three portraits are left.

He then continued to tell us that a similar thing happened a few years ago with Vivianne Sassen.

“In her case it turned out that she herself had removed the work! It made every frontpage of every newspaper in the Netherlands! Didn’t you hear about it?!”

Well yeah, we did.

;-)

OpenOffice: MySQL

A day at MySQL

We worked at MySQL today which was another great experience. The biggest conference room so far with unlimited drinks and a nice view. Marten Mickos is just a great guy with a perpetual smile on his face.

We did a lot of work for The Next Web Conference and also launched the new member section for Fleck.com.

And to make things even better Patrick just emailed me this post from Saul Klein’s blog where he mentions us and the Next Web Conference and OpenCoffee Amsterdam.

At MySQL with MartenAnother great day!
