SideNight: Picnic Speaker Dinner

Last night (Saturday) Patrick invited a bunch of people to my house for dinner. At a party on Thursday he bumped into some speakers who were in town for PICNIC and invited them all ("Including all your friends and partners") to MY house for dinner on Saturday. I found out about this on Friday. We also had 2 children staying over. But I'm not complaining at all! Dinner was great fun and there were lots of great people. Dick Hardt obviously listened to Patrick and invited 2 friends of...

My Twitter Updates (2007-09-29)

As you can see I installed a plug-in that fetches my Twitter Updates and posts them here once a day. This also means I will be changing the way I Twitter. If every Update I do ends up here it means I should try to make updates that are interesting even if taken out of context. I'm not sure if that will work but I will give it a try. This is the first batch of Twitter Updates: @thijsjacobs: iPhone sucks. Busy with stuff... # I love the iPhone but I just miss my Blackberry too much....

Distraction or Divergence?

There are several ways to report on what I am doing with my life. The single most important way for the last two years has been my blog. Right now I see this changing. In the past few months I have begun to use several other channels too and they steal attention from my blog. Last year we traveled to New York and San Francisco and I emailed little updates (10+ a day) to my blog as we traveled around. I also used Flickr to post photos to my blog from my Blackberry Pearl earlier. In other...

De Pers: Social networking

On page 20 of dutch magazine De Pers (available as PDF here) you can find an article about Social Networking with a few quotes from me. One example: Ik gebruik LinkedIn vooral als dynamisch cv en ik onderhoud via die site mijn zakelijke contacten. Ik heb er nu meer dan vijfhonderd, dat is haast te veel. Ik wil iedereen persoonlijk kennen To clarify that: I want all those people to really know me. If I call one of those 500 people I want them to answer the phone and say 'Hi Boris, how...

Personal Public Relations

As an entrepreneur you always try to get attention for your companies and projects. I have been working on this for years and have managed to attract all kinds of attention for a lot of our stuff. But recently there has been more attention for me in general and less for the projects I do. I am very easy to please and generally accept any speaking or interview opportunity for any magazine or website. I just always say 'yes' when I'm am asked to do an interview or presentation. And it is starting...

FON & HubHop

Yesterday I received a Fon router. In case you don't know; Fon is a company that gives away free Wi-Fi wireless networking routers to anyone who wants to install one and make it accessible to other Fon users. FON received $21.7 million (in 2006) from Google, Skype, and Sequoia Capital to build a free network of Wi-Fi hotspots all over the world. The idea is that you set-up the Fon Access Point in your window and allow other users to access your Hotspot. If they also make their hotspot available...
