My Privacy Invaded By A TV Crew?

Me with 4 girls

This morning at 10 I had agreed to be interviewed at home about the effects of the Internet on social behaviour. They wanted to know what the effect of Twittering, blogging, Flickr-ing, emailing and social networking will have on humanity.

They did their research and read on my blog that I spend almost each morning in Nero for a cappuccino and decided to surprise me there. They had asked the owner permission yesterday and Wendy and Dianne Caris were waiting for me to arrive this morning.

I came it at 9:30 with Loïs and Faye at which point they rushed out to find the camera crew to do the shot. I didn’t suspect anything and just figured they were having a coffee there before meeting me. They ended up doing one take in Nero asking me a few simple questions. I probably looked a bit surprised as I was just waking up and was concentrating on Loïs and Faye.

They wanted to know what the benefit was of letting people know what I do and if I wasn’t concerned about my privacy.

This whole privacy discussion (see comments) is starting to get interesting. I explained that I think that privacy is overrated. Not that it isn’t important but it gets way to much attention. I made clear that a lot of stuff should be kept private but lots more can be shared without any problems. Mainly because my personal information simply isn’t that interesting to other people.

I voiced a lot of my opinions too about the value of information, the future of the internet and how we use the idea of God as an example of how we want to develop ourselves. The show will be broadcasted on August 4.

Cool! What channel is it going to be aired on?

commenter

It is an RVU documentary so maybe channel 3?

commenter

Will it be on air tonight?

Well I’m not the only one who uses what we now shall call “the NERO tactic”. Nice picture of you and your family. I’ll watch the show when it’s in the air!

Did you pick up the book from Andrew Keen (the other entrepeneur) already?

@Michiel: I try to read inspiring and positive books. This doesn’t seem a very optimistic book. Even the review at Amazon “relentless “polemic”" aren’t that positive…

True.
I sometimes find it usefull to see an other point of view. It can work for inspiration too sometimes. ;-)

@Michiel: that is completely true too! I’ll take another look…

“How much easier it is to be critical than to be correct.” ^_^

Well, the reviews of the book don’t sound too promising to me too and I think I agree with Boris here (in my own interpretation), why read stuff that’s fundamentally negative about something? What can you possibly get or gain from that?
