Listen Less Hear more
I have a friend who loves classical music. He took me to the opera and to a few musical performances in the ‘Concertgebouw’ in the past. Today he told me that the better the music is, the more he will be distracted while listening. And he used to hate that.
But recently he started to accept that good music actually does that to you. It engages your mind, stimulates your thoughts and activates your senses.
The less you listen the more you will hear.
You will hear your own thoughts.
He asked me about the lectures I give. His question:
‘Do you think it is possible to actually teach people something in one hour?’
Good question. I don’t expect to teach people a lot of new stuff. But besides that I hope to engage their minds, stimulate their thoughts and activate their senses.
One of the best thing that can happen is that the whole audience is distracted and staring at the ceiling.
Listening to their own thoughts.

*Visited the concert gebouw last week for the first time. What an experience!
I couldn’t agree more on what your friend says.
Yesterday i was at the Hilversum filmtheater and i saw the film “Transylvania”. It’s a beautiful film with intense music and i really enjoyed watching it even though all i could think of was “I WANT TO CREATE SUCH A GREAT MOVIE AS WELL”.
I’ve got the same experience when visiting a good concert because then i’m constantly thinking “i’m going to take a year off just to make a damn good album or piece of music”.
