TwitterMail.com in 9, 8, 7…

June 20th, 2007

TwitterMail.comA few months ago I posted an OpenIdea here titled “OpenIdea: twittermail.com” in which I proposed that someone would build a simple ‘email to Twitter.com engine’. It took a while but 3 days ago Lennaert and Bram contacted me with a plan to actually build Twittermail.

They started on Sunday and I expect them to finish the whole thing before the end of the week. In fact, it already works but they are adding some extra features and polishing the site.

I have been using the service for a few hours now and so far it works very well. Hardly any delay in posting and very easy to set-up. They also contacted the Twitter people who promised to add a small “Posted via Twittermail” message to each Twitter that comes from Twittermail.com. I expect the whole thing to become very popular!

It would be nice to get some people to beta test the service before we go live. If you are interested email me or leave a comment here.

Hi Boris, I’d love to take a look at twitterMail!

Boris, perhaps I don’t really understand the concept, but to me an email-to-twitter service doesn’t benefit the Twitter concept. Imagine everyone would start posting by mail… Nobody would read anything! It’s like we’re al talking at the same time. That’s no conversation.
To me, reading the tweets of interesting people is one of the things that makes Twitter as interesting as it is.
    Can someone proof me wrong?

Hi, Krijn. The TwitterMail concept is simple: you fill in your Twitter credentials and you receive a unique secret email address. Every time you send an email to that address the message body will be posted on your Twitter account.

It isn’t our goal to change the way people use Twitter, it’s our goal to complement the Twitter service with the ability to Twit via email. Because a lot of people are very email orientated (for example the owner of this blog..). It’s just a piece of comfort or a solution.

If you want to read responses to your Twittering or you want to read Twittering from other users you still have to go to the Twitter.com site.

    (But we’re working on something.. ;) )

Thanks Bram. But for this purpose there are many clients available (also for the blackberry to keep this blog’s owner as an example;-) But hey, I don’t want to discourage you guys, I’m just worried - as I said - that this kind of servcices results in broadcasting in stead of interacting. Let’s wait and see.

@krijn: the future of Twitter is remote interaction. We plan to offer that via TwitterMail.com. This is just the start…

This is a serious error, still we have only one case of the orange box error.

If there is anyone out there experiencing the same error please email us!
