Am I Getting Cynical?

May 23rd, 2007

Apple Airport extremeMy old set-up didn’t work well so I decided to upgrade to the new Apple Airport Extreme today. I spent €179 on it and installed it when I got home.

As you can guess it doesn’t actually give you twice the reach that they promise and works just as lousy as the old hardware set-up.

Somehow I am not too surprised and I hate that. I want to stay optimistic and not be one of those people who says “I knew that would happen” when something goes wrong.

Luckily we are announcing a new Wi-Fi hardware product* next week which will solve some of my problems. More about that on tuesday morning…

PS: Erwin mentioned I might be promoting my new product by dissing Apple. That would be a really bad karma thing now wouldn’t it? Read the comments for more info on this.

When i’d be cynical i’d say Boris is dissing someone elses product to promote his own. But i wait another week!

    Is it?

This is what you say after dissing the Airport Extreme:

“Luckily we are announcing a new Wi-Fi hardware product* next week which will solve some of my problems. More about that on tuesday morning…”

Yes, true. But the new hardware is not better THAT way. It is true that it will solve my problem but not because it has better software but because it is a different system. In other words: if I would switch to cable instead of wi-fi my problem would go away but it wouldn’t be a ‘better’ solution. Get it?

Since EVERYTHING breaks down or crashes when I touch it even my own solution will probably NOT work for me. And now I’m going to back up my Harddisk because it is failing on me, again.

Ah… do you believe in selffulfilling prophecies? If so, be on the alert! ;-)
