I Am Now An Official Inventor!
And so is Patrick!
We just received a large stack of paper from the ‘International Searching Authority’ regarding a patent we filed in 2005 for certain parts of Fleck.com. It was published online on May 7, 2007 and can be found here:
The title (how poetic!) is
“A COMPUTER PROGRAM AND SYSTEM FOR NAVIGATING THROUGH ELECTRONIC DOCUMENTS”
Patrick and me are listed as both as ‘Applicants’ and ‘Inventors’ which made us very proud when we first got the papers back. Now that it is online it is even more interesting! I wonder if it will affect my Google Rank.
So now I can introduce myself as the “Successful Serial Internet Entrepreneur and Inventor”. As far as the value of a patent and my opinion on patents in general, that is another story.

congrats to you guys!!!
@gar
Wow, i wouldn’t have taken you for a software patent proponent but i guess i was mistaken. I guess you had your reasons…
@Tijs: I’m not a patent proponent. I dislike software patents as much as everyone online. But a small part of our technology proved to be innovative enough to patent. It was a nice thing to be able to say to investors, and our mothers, but that is as far at will take us. We won’t have enough budget to actually patent the technology world wide (€80.000) and certainly not enough money to protect it, even if we wanted too…

Lol, well don Krelis!
Fair enough. Thanks for explaining your position a bit more, it would be too bad if this public statement would be used/read as a vote for software patents by some of those who -are- proponents of this archaic system (looking in the general direction of VVD politicians)
Boris, out of curiousity, how much did the patent application cost? I saw you worked with a patent attorney which costs money off course. But the filing itself, is that costly?
I was thinking about filing a patent myself, hence the questions…
