Ski!

Ski.
Photo by Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten.

Tomorrow night (friday morning actually) I’m leaving for Meribel Mottaret in the French Alps. It is located in Le Trois Vallees and I’m staying there for a week.

I have been looking forward to this trip for months now, checking the weather forecasts and Webcams of the area on a daily basis.

I’m planning on drinking and eating way too much and will report on my progress in that area.

As usual I will blog via Blackberry.

Fleck & Clipmarks

Clipmarks.com is a service with a Firefox Extension that lets you copy/paste content from other sites. It is similar to Fleck in a sense because it allows more interaction with websites you visit. A clear difference is that Fleck is ON the page you want to work with and Clipmarks is BESIDES the page you want to work with.

Still, some very interesting features here and worth another look.

Temporary = Permanent

Apple Bicycle‘I’ll call you back’
‘That is impossible’
“it’s not you, it’s me’

These lines mean something else.
I have another one for you:

‘This is just temporary’

Temporary has a habit of becoming permanent.

Always!

A temporay name, logo, fix or description is always what you end up with permanently.

My solution: do everything permanent, and right, the first time. You might not GET it right the first time and you can always change it again later. But don’t think of anything as a temporary solution.

Follow the link for a nice story about how the Apple Macintosh was once almost named ‘Bycicle’.

‘Macintosh was just a temporary name and everybody got used to it. Then they decided to go for a more official sounding name and invented ‘Bicycle’. Everybody hated ‘Bicycle’ and kept calling it ‘Macintosh’. Even after Apple paid tens of thousands of dollars to a marketing consulting firm to come up with a new name they decided to just name it ‘Macintosh’.

The temporary became permanent.

Testing Postie with WordPress 2.1

Since I upgraded wordpress to version 2.1 the Postie plug-in ceased to work. Fortunately i just found a fix here.

Also, if you happen to get this error when running Postie:

The server said - POP3: premature NOOP OK, NOT an RFC 1939 Compliant server.

Do this:

edit wp-includes/class-pop3.php, and change this line:
if($this->RFC1939) {
to this:
if(!$this->RFC1939) {
(add exclamation point).

Hope that helps…

A Good Old Fashioned Boycott!

Gizmodo has declared March the month to boycott the RIAA. Read the story and see how you can help. “We want to get the word out to as many people as humanly possible that we can all send a message by refusing to buy any album put out by an RIAA label.”

I like it…

Apple Mac OS XIV?

An incredible video of what could be the future of computer interfacing. I wonder if I would actually use this one day on my folding MacBook Pro with touchscreen monitor and motion sensor and GPS and 12 Megapixel camera and UMTS build in.
