Diner with Marc Canter
Yesterday (Friday december 15, 2006) I hosted another Informal Diner Party. These parties are a recurring event and I have hosted quite a few the last two years. Usually we have a guest from outside of the Netherlands visiting Amsterdam who I then invite for diner. Then I also invite local entrepreneurs or just friends and end up with 10 tot 20 people who don’t know each other or only by name.
Last night Marc Canter was our special guest and I invited 14 other people to have diner with us. Diederik Martens (Twones.com) and I did most of the shopping and cooking but at these diners everybody helps with everything.
One memorable event was when I asked Marc to notify everyone that we needed to get the dishes to the kitchen. He said “Sure, should I use Verdi?” I had no idea what he meant so replied “Yeah, that would be great”. So Marc got up from his chair and started singing, quite loud too, a classical scene from a Verdi Opera for about 3 minutes. The whole room went silent and everybody listened. After he finished everybody appluaded Marc and then he simply said “Oh, Boris asks you if you could all bring your plates to the kitchen…

Other guests were Anina and Fiona from Anina.net and 36 Fashion magazine, Paul Smits and Raimo van der Klein from KPN, Tanja de Bie from Daags.nl, Marja Ruigrok from Ruigrok/netpanel, Ronnie Overgoor from Pitchmanagement.nl, Syb Groeneveld from Kennisland.nl, Esme Vos from MuniWireless.com, Thomas van de Weerd from SBS and Arjen and Patrick from Fleck.com.
We started the evening with a glass of champagne. Then we had melted french camembert with honey and rosemary. The second course was broiled oysters with red peppers and a special secret sauce. Then we had pasta with seaweed, sun-dried and marinated tomatoes and Ensis americanus (Also know as Ensis directus or the dutch “Scheermessen”). For desert we had ‘Fruit soup’ which consists of fresh fruits such as Mango, passion-fruit and mellon. I also add rum and sorbet ice to it.
The guests brought wine and more champagne and after diner we had some thee and cognac.
A great evening!

Hi Boris, I had a good time, the soup was a bit too spiked for me (I seldomly drink). I’m glad I didn’t run into any alcoholchecks. But the food was excellent, as was the company.
Hi Boris,
Thanks for a great evening of inspiration, laughter and insights.
You are a great host!
Raimo

I want to thank Boris for this great initiative, and knowledge of men, to bring such guests together.
