What is wrong with Alexa?

November 28th, 2006

Alexa LogoIt is time for a new Alexa-like service: AJAXed, more Digg-like and updated to Web2.0.

I use Alexa a lot. It serves as a quick check to see what a site is ‘worth’. If it claims to be really popular and I don’t trust that I just check them at Alexa. If someone writes that service X is history and service Y the new hot things Alexa will tell me if that is true.

But Alexa is soooo 1999. The design and features and the black and white stats. It doesn’t use the collective mind at all. It also seems to only work on Explorer. Yech. Maybe they should buy StumbleUpOn and integrate Alexa into that.

It also seems that Alexa stopped working altogether on november 22. Check any website on it. The last blog post is from november 22 and there is no updated information of any kind since that day.

Weird…

oh and btw I personally think snap is a very user unfriendly little tool.
Somehow it blocks the way you try to navigate trough a website.
Because of the sharp pointer the ayer area is actually bigger then it seems which reslults in confussion. It seems that the layer doesn’t want to go off again. Just to let you know…

Yeah, alexaholic is the web20 version of alexa. Use it all the time. Check the spike for Fleck.com:

No, Alexaholic is just the Web2.0 theme overlaid on Alexa. As you can see their data stops on november 22 too. And the graph is just as ugly as alexas…

    ;-)

Compete is supposed to be the better alternative to Alexa, mixing Alexa’s model with Comscore’s approach.

    Okey Boris.

I am afraid though that AJAX will not even spot my websites on the internet.

Some people say I am an early adapter, but I have never even used ALEXA.
Maybe I should skip using it. Thanx anayway, for keeping me informed…
