Imperfection is the new Perfection

I’m on the beach, staring at the sea at my feet. My sister is sitting next to me and she is working on a bathing suit doing croche (is that correct?) for my 2 year old daughter.

Just a minute ago she sweared out loud and told me she discovered a small error. She was thinking about starting over but then said ‘the arabs used to always include one mistake in threir famous rugs so I will do the same for this bathing suit’

I asked if she knew why they did that and she told me that only god can make something perfect so it would be disrespectful to try to make a perfect rug.

I knew this explanation but also knew another story that says that the small error is to trick and confuse the devil.

I’m reading a book titled ‘Naked Conversations’ by Shel Israel (!) and Robert Scoble and they write about the CEO of Sun who posts blogs with clear typos and that people take that as proof of authenticity.

I have written before about how profesional is not impersonal and this seems to be another signal that things are changing.

It seems that people are starting to look for and appreciatte personalized and Imperfect products more than Perfect ones.

  1. Thanks for the mention of the book I wrote with Robert Scoble, my co-author. Having worked for seven days a week, 17 hours a day for over six months on Naked Conversations, I would greatly appreciate your inclusing me in the credits.

  2. Ahem, now I’m proud and ashamed at the same time. Proud because at the same time as I’m reading Shel and Roberts book they might be reading my blog. Ashamed because I left out Shels name in my post about their book.

    Corrected now. Won’t happen again…
