Who will build me a Wi-Fi Canalizer?

July 31st, 2006

Wi-Fi CanalizerMy house is located in the center of Amsterdam and I’m surrounded by Wi-Fi signals. I used to have my own network too but I’m picking up stronger signals with more bandwith from neighbours I don’t even know so I switched of my own equipment.

At this moment I can see 8 different signals. Some are closed networks but most are open and available. I can only connect to one at a time so I tend to just pick the one with the best signal. But what if I could connect to all the networks at the same time and combine their bandwith?

Yeah, that is what I need!

A big, fat access point with a large antenna and a bunch of Wi-Fi cards that automatically connect to the strongest signals it can pick up. Then it would combine all these signals into one FreeLoading Broadband Canal for me to use.

I’m not a hardware developer so I wouldn’t know how to build this but I do think it is possible and am willing to pay for it. Wouldn’t it be a nice project to work on during the summer?

My budget for a finished and working Wi-Fi Canalizer is €1000,-

Who is up for the challenge?

    A meta-hub that eats its own kind… It’s a Cannibalizer!

I don’t have 1000$ to spend (and if i had it, i would pay a good DSL link) but i have 2 atheros cards and a ubuntu box. If you post how you do the inverse load balancing, i would be interested. (i guess google may show me anyway)

    Thankyou for the idea.
